Urine... The Fuel of The Future!

Yea, you read right, URINE is the fuel of the future as said by scientists at Ohio University. In mid 2010, students and scientists realized that one molecule of urea, a major component of urine, contains four atoms of hydrogen bonded to two atoms of nitrogen. Stick a special nickel electrode into a pool of urine, apply an electrical current, and hydrogen gas is released! As amazing as this is, we will soon be able to take our body's natural waste and put it towards the future! Imagine a world where we have cars, powered by our own body's waste! An average person/family flushes about 4 to 6 times a day. Now times that by 365. If you did your math correctly that comes out to about 1460 to 2190 flushes a YEAR! Also, about 6 gallons of water go down the pipes every flush! So that's about 8760 to 13140 GALLONS a YEAR!
"It is not a solution for all our cars," said Stickney, "but it is the kind of process which will find many applications and will make for a greener world." So as you can see, urine can be the start to something green and amazing!

I want to hear from you, what are your thoughts about urine powered cars? Do you think this will make for a better, greener world? Or will it just be a promise no one can keep? I want to hear form YOU! So leave a comment below and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

Until then, Stay green guys! ~*KRISTINA*~

  1. Not gonna lie, when I first read the title of the blog post I was grossed out! But as I kept reading, you have so many good points, strong facts and numbers that I was absolutely persuaded! The only thing is how are we going to get the urine? I really don't want to think about it, lol, but I wonder....

I don't know if people will like the smell of gas any more!!

  2. Yes, but that is what got you to read it, no? Thank you. And if people want to save money that bad, they can save their urine and sell it to the lab. Also, who likes the smell of gas anyways?!?! x_x lol.

Thanks for all your great comments, questions, and just for taking the time to read.

    STAY GREEN!
