Baskets of Flowers For Mommy

Mother’s day is approaching and I bet you still haven’t found that perfect gift for mom yet to show her how much you care. Why not show mom you love her in a more eco friendly fashion? Chica and Jo, from a popular crafting website (www.chicaandjo.com) have given me some great ideas! It’s a flower planter and its 100% eco friendly and biodegradable! You just have to plant it in the ground! This is possible using an empty Quaker Oats container, some mulberry paper, glue, scissors and most importantly some seeds and soil. This project works great for other occasions too, such as birthdays. Baby showers, Valentines Day, or to just so someone you care! To see full instructions please visit, http://bit.ly/kEHYjw

Another great way to show mom you care is to ditch the plastic! Many flowers come in wrapped plastic that is just thrown away and sits in a landfill for decades to come! Instead, try either picking your own flowers (NOT from a pubic place unless authorized, neighbors yard, or wild area such as a forest.) Or, you can try fake flowers, sure they aren’t as great smelling but they last a lot longer and add a little pizzazz to your home. Lastly you can but different fruits and arrange them on a centerpiece that is edible, and if not eaten, compostable!

Lastly, breakfast in bed. Paper plates are no good, and not very durable for things such as syrup or omelets. Try going with glass or plastic plates. This way you can just rinse them and reuse them! Now you may be thinking about the mess and the dishes that will vary upon what you cook. If you cook bacon, I suggest pouring your grease into an old or never used mug and place it in the fridge for two to three days. Then once it has gelled, scoop it out in a plastic sandwich baggie and simply throw out. If you throw this grease down your drain it may lead into streams, rivers, ponds and eventually the ocean. Do you really want to be swimming in bacon juice?!  Also, the bacon grease can gel in your pipes causing you a lot of money to have a professional come and clean your pipes. I suggest the most if you hand wash your dishes like my family, use cold water and dry manually. Or, if you have a dishwasher, hand dry your dishes instead of having the dishwasher dry them for you.

To all the moms out there, have a happy, wonderful and environmentally friendly Mother’s Day. We love you!

Stay Green Guys,
